Publikacja stanowi pierwsze dogmatyczne tłumaczenie tekstu polskiego Kodeksu karnego z 1997 r. na język angielski. Przygotowując opracowanie, autorzy analizowali ustawodawstwo karne, orzecznictwo i doktrynę prawa karnego systemu common law, systemu amerykańskiego oraz systemu kontynentalnego, aby uwzględnić fundamentalne różnice w rozumieniu pojęć prawa karnego w tych porządkach prawnych.
Książka ma niezwykle wygodny układ treści, pozwalający na bezpośrednie porównanie polskiej i angielskiej wersji tekstu ustawy. Dodatkową zaletę opracowania stanowią krótkie definicje wybranych pojęć znajdujących się w Kodeksie.
This publication is a first-ever-released translation of the Polish Criminal Code of 1997 that preserves the Code's actual normative contents. While preparing the publication, the authors have analysed criminal legislation, judicial opinions and academic studies of criminal law in common law, United States' and European legal systems, in order to take into account the fundamental differences in approaching criminal law concepts in these legal systems.
The book has an exceptionally convenient structure, allowing parallel comparison of both Polish and English versions of the statute. Additional merit to this publication is provided by the short annotations to the selected concepts that appear in the Code.
"This translation of the Polish Criminal Code into English, together with its accompanying encyclopedia, will be an extremely valuable resource for both scholars and practitioners of criminal law worldwide. Much more than a mere translation, the authors have provided a thoughtful, comprehensive, and precise description of Polish criminal law that reveals the theoretical and analytical foundations of that law, and thereby facilitates the best kind of comparative legal study. As the world becomes an ever smaller and more interconnected place, learning from each other becomes increasingly important - even necessary. This project makes a major contribution to that worthy goal."
